Thorough quality control for quantitative research
  • When undertaking quantitative research in China, a particularly important matter is how to best maintain quality control. At GLocal Insight, our China Team has developed a set of wide-ranging guidelines.
  • Our quality control and fieldwork elements are established independent of one another. Meanwhile, the Quality Control Manager and our sales planning staff share responsibility in the fielding of projects.
  • Concerning all potential respondents recruited in advance by recruiters, they are independently re-screened by our quality control staff to make sure they fully meet project criteria.
  • Whereby lifestyle and income considerations are defined as respondent criteria, our quality control staff also undertake surveillance of the living conditions of potential respondents to confirm their suitability.
  • When undertaking fieldwork, rather than our fieldworkers it is the QC staff who confirm respondent credentials. We also ask that all respondents furnish those credentials that directly relate to their specific project. For example, driver’s licenses and vehicle registration documents are necessary to participate in automotive studies, meanwhile identification booklets are required to be involved in research that relates to infant products and baby food. (In China, parents are issued with official identification booklets that set out the parent/child relationships).
  • After fieldwork has concluded, our quality control staff carry out inspections of questionnaires and undertake respondent callbacks at a rate of 20% or more.
  • What is more, to the extent that it is possible, the basic approach that we adopt when conducting quantitative research is to have our field staff conduct face-to-face interviews with respondents.
